Chairman's Message

Today the board is entrusted to meet the demands of modern day education which has undergone rapid change in a highly globalized environment. We cannot remain aloof and have to be a part of the change. In the intense competitive environment we are pacing ourselves with contemporary thoughts. We are encouraging the use of technology and conducting regular training programs for our staff as well as thousands of teachers who are the linchpin of the education system.

I am honored to be at the helm of such an important organization which was, is and will be playing a deciding role in the betterment of the state. It is my aim to keep up the efficiency and transparency in the board and aim for newer heights. I pray to the almighty to bestow upon his blessings on each and every member of the board so that we can keep up the good work and steer the students and society as a whole towards a better tomorrow.

SSLC Examination
Every year under the academic stream of 10 year pattern SSLC and Higher Secondary Examination for the 12th standard are the main examinations conducted by this Department. In order to facilitate the students to continue the studies without any break, the Special Supplementary Examinations for X & XII are conducted for the benefit of students who have failed in March / April Examinations. From June / July 2012 candidates are allowed to appear for special supplementary examinations, irrespective of the number of subjects they failed.
Diploma in Elementary Education (DEE)
The Mizoram Board of School Education also conducting the examinations for the Diploma in Elementary Education, The scanned copy of answer scripts is provided to the candidates who desire for it. Moreover re-totaling and revaluation of answer scripts is also done for the candidates who desires.
Eighth Standard Public Examination (ESLC)
In Order to impart minimum general education qualification to obtain employment / promotion at basic level , DGE conducts the ESLC Examinations and …. no of candidates were appeared in the examination conducted in Jan 2017. Technical Examinations are conducted for the following subjects namely Drawing , Sewing , Agriculture , Printing , Music and Handloom Weaving to provide technical qualification for employment. The above examinations are conducted in two levels i.e. Lower & Higher Grade.
Functions
Main objective of the Department of Examination is the assessment of Scholastic attainment of academic students and skilled attainments by conducting X and XII Mizoram Board of School Education Examinations, Technical Examinations, Diploma in Elementary Education, NMMS, TRUSTS, National Talent Search Examinations and releasing of results in time, and issuing certificates therefore under the authority of Mizoram Board of School Education.

The academic curriculum of MBSE is engaging with modern principals, interesting and easy to understand that not only imparts deep insights about subjects but is also highly effective for further higher studies, especially when we talk about the competitive examinations like NEET, JEE Mains & Advanced and other competitive examination.

The curriculum of Secondary, Senior Secondary, skilled and vocational programmes is designed by MBSE experienced academicians at National and State level, including from National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), some of whom are at the forefront of their field.

Skill and Vocational Programmes of MBSE are designed by industry and corporates experts, are employment-oriented and focused on hands-on experience to equip the students to become skilled professionals.

MBSE Rural Students
Mizoram Board of School Education Rural Students Talent Search Examination (TRUSTS Examination)

MBSE Rural Students Talent Search Examinations is being conducted every year in the month of September, to encourage the rural students.

The students studying in IX standard during the academic year, whose parental annual income does not exceed Rs.1 Lakh are eligible to appear for the Examination. 50 girls and 50 boys are selected from each district and a scholarship of Rs.1000/- per annum is granted for a continuous period of four years. Now, the students are allowed to apply through online. In the year 2016, 53,888 students appeared for the TRUST examination and 3,100 students were eligible for scholarships.

National Means cum Merit Scholarship (NMMS)

The Directorate of Mizoram Board of School Education Examinations conducts the National Means Cum Merit Scholarship (NMMS) examination and the candidates are selected based on the marks and rule of reservation.

Candidates who have passed VII standard from Central/State Government Schools / Government Aided Schools with 55% of marks (50% of marks for SC/ST) and studying in VIII standard and whose parental annual income does not exceed Rs.1,50,000/- are eligible to appear for the examinations and the selected candidates will get a sum of Rs.6,000/- as scholarship per annum (at the rate of Rs.500/- per month) from IX standard onwards upto XII standard. This scheme provides scholarships to 6,695 candidates of Tamil Nadu every year. In the year 2016, ………… students appeared for NMMS examination.
Financial Literacy Program
The Mizoram Board of School education took an initiative to promote Financial Management Courses in collaboration with the National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE) at higher secondary level in 2014.

The course consists of 4(four) papers such as Financial Markets, Mutual Funds, Capital Markets and Derivative Markets.

MBSE also felt the need to create awareness and inculcate knowledge about financial literacy to the students at young age. The objective is to help the students acquire necessary life skills and prepare them with the basics of financial management and discipline. In this regard, Financial Literacy was introduced in 2016 in collaboration with the National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE) on a pilot basis in 60 selected schools of Aizwal, Lawngtlai, Lunglei and Mamit. The curriculum comprises of 25 periods of 45 minutes each. The textbook materials are developed by NSE and the teachers are trained by the National Stock Exchange of India Limited. An offline examination is conducted at the end of the academic session. A joint certificate by the MBSE and NSE is issued to students and teachers on various categories.
Evaluation Process
In order to maintain secrecy and accuracy in evaluation process, the Board introduced use of Optical Mark Reader (OMR) and Bar Code for the entry of Roll numbers in the front cover of the answer scripts with effect from HSLC & HSSLC Examinations 2016.

The Software(s) and hardware(s) used for Processing the answerscripts are as follows: Fire-eye scanner, extract Pro+, normal scanner, SQL server and Computers.

The MBSE has been making efforts in every aspect to provide quality education and efficient method to assess the accurate learning outcome. Bar coding of the answer scripts and OMR award sheet was introduced w.e.f. HSLC & HSSLC Examinations 2016 and 2017 respectively in order to maintain secrecy and minimize error in result making.

The Board in its endeavor for the last 42 years has its ups and downs, sweet and bitter experiences, overcoming various challenges has now stand at par with the rest of the country yet still envisages attaining higher degree of excellence and will remain true to its motto ‘Labour and Honour’
Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE)
The Mizoram Board of School Education MBSE introduced the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) scheme at the secondary stage in all its registered schools in the year 2007. CCE refers to a system of evaluation that covers all aspects of students’ development. The term “continuous” refers to evaluation of all aspects of students’ growth and development that covers the teaching – learning process of the entire academic session. The second term “comprehensive” means the assessment cover both the scholastic and the co-scholastic aspects of students’ growth and development.

The CCE scheme was revised and introduced in 2015 to facilitate holistic assessment of the child with the techniques and tools of evaluation. A report card on CCE was also developed by the Board and introduced in 2016 to record the overall student’s performance of the students. The students are assessed in the following aspects by the teachers on Co-scholastic Areas:

Branches
General Branch

The Deputy Secretary is the head of the General Branch. He is responsible for matters relating to administration, establishment, properties, etc. He is assisted by the Secretary and other subordinate staff members of the trust running with the board.

Academic Branch

The Director (Academic) is the head of the Academic Branch. He is assisted in his work by three officers of the branch viz., one Senior Academic Officer and two Academic Officers and subordinate staff.

Examination Branch

The Controller of Examinations (EC) is the head of the Examination Branch and is responsible for all matters concerning examinations and administration of examinations. The CE is assisted by three officers of the branch viz., a Deputy Controller of Examinations and two Assistant Controller of Examinations and subordinate staff of Mizoram board of School Education

Regional office of the Board

To cater to the needs of the three southern districts of the State namely Lunglei, Lawngtlai and Saiha Districts a Regional office of the Board was set up on 2005. The office is seated by a Regional Officer and run with the support of one clerical staff and two IV Grade personnel.
Structure of Board
The Chairman and secretary is a whole-time officer appointed on contract service by the Board on terms and conditions agreed to between the person selected. The Board is composed of ex-officio members, members nominated by the committee of Board and co-opted members.

There is a full time Chairman who is the chief executive of the office. The different sections of the office are examination, academic, administration, computer and accounts. The duty of the Chairman is to see that the provisions of the MBSE Act, rules and regulations made thereunder are faithfully observed and he shall have all powers necessary for the purpose.

Mizoram Board of School Education (MBSE) is the name of a pioneer body in the field of Education System of Mizoram, conducted its first Public Examination with total candidates around 6,500 only in 1976. In early days we faced many challenges and it was a bouncy journey with ups and downs. However this has not diminished our spirit and enthusiasm. We have achieved many land marks and mile stones. We at MBSE comprehensively address all the constraint for conducting Madhyamik and H.S (+2 Stage) Examinations efficiently; we care for uniform evaluation and error free publication of result. At present 1062 centre run under MBSE that are cultivating the holistic development of a student through excellence in education. We want every child of our princely state to grow up with education that they will light up the world.

The Secretary is the Chief Administrative Officer responsible for carrying out all the programmes and policies of the Board. He is assisted by three Branch Heads namely – the Director (Academic), the Controller of Examinations and the Deputy Secretary (Amniography appended).

Structurally the Board is divided into three main branches – General, Academic and Examination.

Admission Procedure

Student can go through the online seamless and secure admission procedures by fulfilling the all admission criteria’s or can come through the regular old classic school mode at MBSE under open, distance, online and regular mode. Candidates need to fill the registration form to take direct online admission.
